For individuals and teams, leaders and staff
Each client of Beyond Practice Management is unique. During our initial consultation, we collaboratively tailor a plan to address your most pressing concerns and goals. While respecting your values and honoring your objectives, I will challenge and encourage you to make changes and achieve the results you want in your practice and your life.
Individual Coaching: You will reach your goals more quickly when you move beyond ideas and into action. Coaching provides the structure, focus, and accountability necessary for building an ideal practice. Using knowledge of human behavior, motivation, and change, I will help you clarify and set goals, overcome barriers, and create new opportunities for success. My purpose as a coach is to help create sustainable change in your practice and your life. I call this process alignment coaching. This approach allows you to overcome resistance to change and supports you in taking constructive action toward your goals. The result is a renewed passion for work and practice success.
Skill Development for Leaders: A fortunate few are born leaders. The rest of us must become acquainted with our inner leader and evolve authentic leadership styles. Drawing on my experience as an academic leader, practice consultant, and health care provider, I assist clients in the development of leadership styles and skills that feel natural and are effective. I do not simply refine or redefine your role, but help you develop as a whole person and as a leader. When you are clear about what works for you in terms of successful leadership, you are then able to replicate your successes.
Group Coaching for Team Development: Just because you have a staff does not necessarily mean you have a team. Using a combination of individual coaching and group conference calls, I work with you and your team to get everyone working together for the benefit of your patients — and the health of your practice. Team coaching is about building awareness and commitment, and getting everyone to speak the truth about their role in the health of the practice. The result is a team in which everyone is emotionally engaged and focused intentionally on practice success.
The Purpose Package: Clarity of purpose will help you achieve your most desired goals. Whether you are just starting out in practice or contemplating a mid-career reinvention, it is essential to make decisions based upon your unique life purpose. This powerful four-session coaching series is designed for practitioners who see the value of self-discovery and the need for aligning personal values and purpose in their work.
Wellness Coaching: Wellness is a daily decision, an ongoing process for living a balanced, integrated, and satisfying life. If the demands of practice have left you exhausted and discouraged, wellness coaching can help you become reenergized, renewed, and more balanced in daily life. Self-care is not a luxury, but a necessary and effective strategy for coping with the stress caused by working in an increasingly dysfunctional healthcare environment. Whether you are dealing with a specific mind-body challenge, would like to have more energy, or are dispirited because of previous unsuccessful attempts at lifestyle change, wellness coaching offers new perspectives, powerful support, and effective strategies for improving your life and health.
EQ In-Action Profiles
Based on the well-established theory and respected model of Emotional Intelligence, EQ In-Action profiles provide a snapshot view of an individual's internal experience and habitual strategies when they are in difficult or stressful situations.
The value of this tool is that it places individuals in real situations, watching and responding to video segments of difficult conversations in challenging work situations. A report is then generated that identifies strengths and weaknesses in different dimensions of emotional intelligence and the person's capacity to respond in stressful situations. Suggestions for daily practices are then offered to build increased fitness in chosen dimensions. The result is improved interpersonal communication skills and more effective professional relationships. This profile is an invaluable tool for coaching individuals and teams interested in lasting change.

"The EQ helped me honor and better understand the struggles I have with myself and others when stressed. It gave me an internal lens to view my emotions, my empathy, and levels of trust that impact me. I feel more empowered to listen to myself, others, and have begun to see more options for response, relaxation, and respecting my needs and desires."

Questions clients ask about coaching
What is the difference between coaching and counseling?
Both involve an ongoing confidential and supportive relationship. As a rule, coaching is more action-oriented than counseling. We are not dealing with or repairing deep emotional or psychological issues. Instead, we work to recognize patterns, address cognitive and behavioral issues, and develop new skills, attitudes, and ways of responding to challenges in your practice or life. Coaching is more about the how than the why which tends to be the focus of counseling.
Does coaching require that I adopt a new set of beliefs, or change everything that I am doing now?
Coaching does not require that you change anything, but you will definitely notice a shift in the way you approach your work as a result of coaching. It is not my intent to convince you to think or behave like I do, or like any of my other clients do. But when individuals are ready to make significant changes, I do everything I can to guide them to new ways of looking at their situations so that they can achieve the goals they design for themselves. I work with practitioners who hold varying philosophies and embody different styles of practice. One of the first rules of coaching is to stay with the client's agenda. Know that I am committed to honoring that tenet, while helping you honor your own commitment and intention to change, grow, and develop through the coaching process.
How long does coaching last?
It varies from client to client. In some cases, two to three months or coaching is all that is needed for a client to achieve their goals and move forward with an action plan. Some clients stay engaged in the coaching process for six months to a year or even longer. The frequency of coaching sessions and the total coaching time depends entirely on each client’s needs and the results they are achieving.
Is it possible to measure my return on investment if I sign up for coaching?
It is difficult to say in advance exactly what a client will achieve. It does not make sense to say “with coaching you will increase your revenues by 20%” because that may or may not even be your goal. The return on investment is unique to each client. Early on in the coaching process, we establish clear objectives and the criteria by which we will gauge success. So, your individual ROI will be determined by measuring your goals going into the coaching process against the results you ultimately achieve. Most clients report their ROI being related to new ways of thinking, learning, and leading. The tangible benefits — improvements in productivity, teamwork, and/or finances — tend to be the result of new attitudes, skills, and behaviors.
